The last thing you’d want in order to get better at writing is to write more.

So first, put your pencils and keyboards down.

Double down on staying away from your notebooks. Put them back into the shelves!

Also remember: now is not the time to go and try a writing experiment. Be steadfast. Go on with your day like how you’ve always done it. Don’t seek change.

Okay, I’m done.

Of course, this message can’t be real.

I was actually inspired by James Hart’s piece, “The last thing you’d want in a recession is more business”.

The real message is this. If you want to get better at writing, you’ve simply got to write a lot.

It doesn’t matter if the writing is good or bad. What matters more is that you come back and keep writing day after day.

Eventually there will be some gold.
