Stop Making Pretty Work When You Can’t Make Pretty Work

As someone who went to study design (literally a field devoted to making things look pretty), I would have never pictured myself desperately encouraging others around me to make ugly work.

5 years ago I would have never imagined I’d be sharing anything but my best foot forward.

Turns out, when you’re stuck in a rut, incapable of producing anything good, ugly work becomes your best friend.

Designers, don’t turn away just yet. Yes, this hurts to read and goes against every bone in your body, but there’s a point to be made.

When you are at a point where you stop creating because you believe what you produce isn’t good enough, you have lost.

Making ugly work keeps us in the game.

Through consistently making ugly work, we’ll eventually come out with something good.

But we’ll never get there without the ugly work, over and over again.

Make ugly work when you can’t make good work.
