“I’m waiting for the right people to notice my work”
(Don’t tell me this thought has never floated through before).
We’ve all wished for this to happen. That some time in the near or far future, a rich and famous person would stumble across our work and go “Oh my god, I need this in my next music video”. Followed by never having to work ever again, pursuing the arts as we make more stuff for more wealthy people.
It’s not impossible, but it won’t happen for 99.9% of us.
Instead of “I’m going to post this and hope for the best”, try “I’m figuring out who I want to make work for”. The difference is that we’re not aiming in the fog.
