The Lifecycle of New Stuff

I bought a new pair of boots a few months ago. They’re a really nice pair. Water resistant, slip resistant, nice leather, and hey they look good too. For the first handful of wears I treaded lightly. As if it wasn’t made for nastier conditions (because it is).

But after the first tarnish, the first sign of dirt and wear, the first scratch, I just gave up.

The new can only last for so long, until it transitions into normal.

And when it’s normal, we don’t have to go out of our way to give things special treatment anymore.
